Chocolate Rice Crispy Treats!
by Lynn Teo
To put into action the mission of Chumz Corp, which is to empower teenagers through the power of mentorship, Chumz’s creative division has decided to produce a reality TV show by and for Chumz teenagers. We believe that media is one of the best ways to reach out and influence today’s society, and we hope to communicate healthy values to the public through this show.  The Chumz Reality show will take place in May 2005, and will be one of the highlights for Chumz Corp in the upcoming year. So stay tuned!
On Saturday, December 18th, the new Chumz TV production team, consisting of Adriana Rojas (17), Reshmi Saha (17), Dianne Rios (17), Antoinette Abiola (14), Chevonne Black (14), and Chumz volunteers Roy Chan and Lynn Teo arrived at the Lambs Theater in Times Square to make rice crispy treats as a fundraiser for the Chumz Reality show scheduled in May 2005. In four hours, the team produced 57 bags of rice crispy treats, topped with chocolate and sprinkles for sale.

In the course of making all of these sweets, the team went over their three-hour reservation of the theater and had to move on to a nearby McDonald’s to finish up. After just one hour, they were asked to move on again. It was then that the team learned the harsh realities in the life of an aspiring filmmaker!  Despite the tough situations, the team grew closer and got to know each other better.

At 5pm, the team, together with other Chumz volunteers, headed towards Rockefeller Center, ready to sell what they had made.  Together as a group, they circled the enormous Christmas tree and throngs of tourists, yelling out, “Chocolate Rice Crispy Treats, fundraising for the high school students!”

Wrapped beautifully in transparent cellophane sheets and red Christmas ribbons, these bags sold at a value of $3 apiece. At the end of the day, all of the Chumz volunteers’ hard labor will pay off when they are able to produce their own TV show.
