With the holidays just over, we are looking forward to New Year’s Eve. The bright lights, the confetti, the traditional gathering at Times Square; watching and joining in with the festivities of the ceremonies with family and friends! O, the joy of it all! But what are we really looking forward to? Have we given any thought to our resolutions for the New Year? We asked a few high school students for their opinion.
Christie S., a junior at Townsend Harris High School says, “First of all, I wish to be a better person in all ways possible. I definitely want to get a head start at looking for prospective colleges. That will be my main priority in 2005.” A few words from a concerned junior define her desire to succeed in the coming year.
Another student, a freshman at Townsend, Mannan H., says, “2005 will be a great year for me because I’ll finally be able to get my working permit. Now, I’ll be able to get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas [a video game] without begging my parents.”
Wise words from teenagers looking to become independent. Maybe in 2005, we’ll be looking forward to not only the little things in life, but we’ll be planning for the future. So, this New Year’s Eve, just before the countdown reaches to one, take a moment to meditate and think. Just think about what you want out of life. Make a list and promise yourself that you will try your hardest to accomplish your goals. Just do it!
